چکیده
Continuum smearing was introduced in section 4.1 of JHEP03, 064 (2006) as a meaningful continuum analogue of the well known set of lattice techniques by the same name. Here we apply continuous smearing in continuous space-time to Wilson loops in order to clarify what it does in the context of field theory and also in the context of the loop calculus of the Makeenko-Migdal equation. c Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike Licence.

Based on the AdS/CFT correspondence, string theory has given exact predictions for circular Wilson loops in U (N) N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory to all orders in a 1/N expansion. These Wilson loops can also be derived from Random Matrix Theory. In this paper we show that the result is generically insensitive to details of the Random Matrix Theory potential. We also compute all higher k-...

The latest results of an ongoing project for the lattice simulation of QCD with a single quark flavor are presented. The Symanzik tree-level-improved Wilson action is adopted in the gauge sector and the (unimproved) Wilson action for the fermion. Results from new simulations with one step of Stout-smearing (ρ = 0.15) in the fermion action are discussed. The one-flavor theory is simulated by a p...

We computed the static potential and Wilson loops to O(α 2) in perturbation theory for different lattice quark and gluon actions. In general, we find short distance lattice data to be well described by " boosted perturbation theory ". For Wilson-type fermions at present-day quark masses and lattice spacings agreement within 10 % between measured " β-shifts " and those predicted by perturbation ...

Wilson loops in large N gauge theory exhibit a weak to strong coupling transition as the loop is dilated. A multiplicative matrix model captures the universal behavior associated with this transition. A universal scaling function is obtained in a double scaling limit. Numerical studies show that both large N QCD in three dimensions and the SU(N) principal chiral model in two dimensions are in t...
